This section comes from pages 19-21 of the fiction-based story, "The Pregnancy of Pain" in Get Free from the Chains of Pain. Listen is pregnant with her first child. Her and her husband Understand decide to take a short trip to Varanasi India, a sacred city aside the Ganges River. Suddenly Listen cramps over. Understand hurries out to look for a doctor, thinking his wife may be starting premature labor. Laying down, Listen experiences lucid dreaming where she witnesses scenes from the potential future of her possible unborn son. Neither Listen or Understand know if their child will be a boy or girl. If Listen can experience this pain in a lucid dream like reality, she heals pain in her and her husband's blood. What beautiful boy and/or girl will be born to Listen and Understand.

In this section Listen watches spiritual ramifications from seeing her possible son in a business deal where he commits murder or is an accomplish.

Pain and Possible Pain

... Flames hiss from a boiling pit below her. Chaotic clashes mingle with aching screams of torture. Gnashing muffles pleas for mercy. Why should she open her eyes? If she could only leave these dark scenes and wake up in her simple life. Did she subconsciously agreed to explore the glowing red within the global apparition? The tremendous power of love for her possible son can lead to unexpected consequences. She must trust in herself in order to learn and grow from what manifests. If the development of her soul depends on understanding the consequences of murder and other poisonous actions, she will be a witness.

How will souls account for the pain they spread? Sometimes only burning pain can extinguish consequences. For this man who Listen thinks could be her unnamed son, this is the only way some will learn. She must open her eyes and observe. What must this son experience for spiritual growth? How much will Listen spiritually grow and refine elements of her soul? Regardless of the fright, sever punishments, or wish to free everybody and end such turmoil, Listen will watch what happens inside of this darkest realm.

Horrific sounds seep from the dungeon below. Even if Listen wanted to fully enter this realm, unseen bars would keep her away. This place is reserved for those committing the most tragic crimes. Before a thick mist clears hardly anything is seen. Then her vision penetrates the barrier and cloudy forms emerge in the darkness. Noticing dark red movement in the distance, she looks closer to see if this might be her son. To her amazement an entire world appears beneath her.

Can Listen possibly describe life in this realm? The sunken valley seems to extend forever. The bordering river of a tar-like substance boils. The rest of the landscape consists of desert sands or scorching dust blowing above a type of mud. Moving forward in this realm would take forever. With each step, a person either starts sinking or sliding backwards. Screams, shouts, weeping, riotous banging, groans, gasps, and chaos spread in a burning wind. Even though she can see and hear the pain, she does need to feel all of the destruction below.

Beasts and monsters appear to go beyond what even the most creative imaginations can describe. Increase the destructive attributes of insects, animals, birds, and sea life, then mix unlimited strength with magical powers to begin to understand this hell.

Listen notices the needle-like mouth of a giant mosquito as the nose on a creature with sharp fins from a poisonous fish, wings from a vulture, legs from a lion, arms from a gorilla, hands from a man, and fangs from a cobra. Rather than being eaten, a helpless person just entering this realm is thrown around like a harmless mouse. About ten times greater in size, the creature spins the person in the air. Once ill and confused, the person is stretched until their bones break. Afterwards the creature beats the body until it bruises so badly that no blood remains in the heart. Poison replaces blood sucked from the body.

In this realm each person is forever conscious of pain. They can not sleep, pass out, or die, and remain constantly awake to the awfulness of their life. Listen can see one man literally scratching off his flesh because the poison itches so badly. Others walk around desperately ripping off their muscles because of what they're feeling. Instead of a rich red, blood is a corrupted red mixed with dark rust. Inside of this fluid lives all types of maggots, parasites, bacteria and disease. Wondering why this realm is not full of walking skeletons, Listen discovers the poisonous source inside of bones. Human inhabitants grow forms from infected bone marrow. After individuals are abused by one of the larger creatures, they tear through their own body trying to get rid of the poison inside. Disgusting growths form on various bodies. Hearing and observing so much makes Listen feel sorry for those suffering in this realm. Though beaten, forced to peel off unbearable parts of the body, and gasping for polluted air just to survive, they continue to suffer.

Body forms are as disgusting as poisons leaking from each heart. Some don't look as awful as others. One man has a clearly visible heart sticking out like an erection covered by thorns. Acids boil in his stomach. Splashes constantly scorch the liver. Intestines are visible and clogged in numerous places. Some parts appear ready to burst as sulfuric acid leaks from ruptured regions and slowly burns fleshy areas. Without warning the rectum ejects a putrid, lava-like feces that scorches the legs and feet, eating away at the exposed flesh, muscle, and bones.

Deranged inhabitants must survive many hazards. Many form gangs. Even though the stronger abuse the weaker, they remain together for the false sense of protection. Others try to hide but must come out to the boiling river and drink of the tar-like substance at least once a day. Early on, after the blood has been initially sucked out and replaced with poisons, some try to wash themselves in the black river only to find their suffering intensified.

Listen starts to understand this place. The larger creatures seem to remain there forever. Some can change at will. Many of the smaller, less complex non-human creatures must serve their larger masters. They locate and trap new arrivals until their master comes. Sometimes there are disputes. The fights of the larger creatures are amazing spectacles. These creatures can magically change forms to surpass the protective armor, razor claws, octopus arms, shark teeth, and other aspects of their competitors. The fight is between two constantly changing forms and ends when one is able to outsmart and infect the other with poison. Once this occurs, the master gains more territory. Trespassing sparks many disputes. These fights are less frequent for the smaller, less powerful creatures. Most compete to please their masters and search for humans who might circulate new blood, which happens when exhibiting any form of humanity, like when forced to interact with fellow inmates to keep a gang together.

Any thought of peace or concern for another human produces a blood demons seek. Real blood is a priceless commodity. Demons parading as nice and friendly deceive most of the humans at one time or another. After coercing the development of a drop or two of blood, demons suck these out to feed to their masters. Everybody in this realm is a slave of some sort. There's no end to the fear and punishment. Though some try to hide and protect themselves, human inhabitants are constantly tormented and poisoned.

Just as Listen feels that she can stand no more, a hand reaches between the bars. Looking, she realizes that this is her son. She didn't think he was here. As far as she knows he's only killed one person. Did he plan other murders? Was he sent to prison? Did he kill other inmates in power struggles?

Listen looks down at her son, who's starting to feel the effects of the poison. He took a moment to reach up but is back to his pain, running towards the river, scratching, and even using a sharp rock to dig poison from his bruised flesh.

Unable to watch her son suffer further, Listen closes her eyes. Tears form in her heart as she prays that her son will somehow be saved. Are the clutches of pain and torment permanent? The horrid smells of sulfur and surrounding carnage, disturbing sights of furious demons and mangled bodies of humans, heat and boiling tar-like feces drunk each day to survive, and constant screams of pain from each new arrival seem unbearable. How can she live and experience any happiness knowing her very son is forced to survive in such a hell? Each thought of the place deepens her pain. Because of the connection to her son, her heart drops into the darkness. Will he have to stay here forever? Can he be released? At what point has he paid for the crime of murder? Right now she'll do anything to get him back. Opening her eyes she looks to see what's above.
